About the Ford LTD
For 1983, Ford moved the LTD nameplate to the mid-size Fox platform, effectively replacing the Fairmont while the full-size model was renamed the LTD Crown Victoria. This generation featured a more aerodynamic 'aero' styling language that would later be perfected by the Taurus. The 2.3-litre 'Lima' engine served as the entry-level powertrain, prioritising fuel economy over performance during a period of transition for American sedans. While not a performance car in this trim, its shared DNA with the Mustang makes it a notable part of Ford's 1980s platform-sharing strategy.
