About the Opel Commodore A
The Opel Commodore A was launched in 1967 as a premium, six-cylinder evolution of the Rekord C, bridging the gap between Opel's mainstream models and the flagship 'KAD' range. The GS (Grand Sport) trim was the performance-oriented variant, featuring twin carburettors and distinctive styling cues like a vinyl roof and wood-veneer interior. Its 'Coke bottle' styling and smooth CIH (Cylinder-in-Head) straight-six engine gave it a mini-muscle car character that was popular across Europe. While the later fuel-injected GS/E grabbed the headlines, the 2.5 GS remains a highly regarded classic for its balance of reliability and period-correct grand touring ability.
