About the Opel Kapitän B
The Kapitän B was the entry-level model of Opel's 'KAD' (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) flagship trio, designed to compete with Mercedes-Benz in the executive sector. Introduced in 1969, it featured a more modern, slightly smaller body than the Kapitän A, though it retained the American-influenced styling typical of GM's European products. Despite its De Dion rear suspension and smooth 2.8-litre straight-six, it struggled to find buyers who preferred the more prestigious Admiral and Diplomat trims. Production lasted just 15 months, making the B-series the rarest and final generation to bear the historic Kapitän name.
