About the Opel Commodore B
The Opel Commodore B was the upmarket, six-cylinder sibling to the Rekord D, positioned to compete with the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz W114. For the 1975 model year, the 2.8 GS featured a detuned version of the 2.8-litre cam-in-head engine to meet stricter emissions standards, producing 140 PS. While the GS/E was the fuel-injected flagship, the carburetted GS offered a more relaxed but still potent grand touring experience. Its 'coke-bottle' styling and pillarless coupé silhouette made it one of the most handsome European cars of the 1970s.

Opel Commodore B fun facts
- The Commodore B was the basis for the first-ever Holden Commodore in Australia, though the Australian version required significant structural reinforcement for local conditions.
- The 2.8-litre engine used a 'Cam-in-Head' (CIH) design, where the camshaft was located in the cylinder head but operated the valves via short pushrods.
- In the UK, the later Commodore C was rebranded as the Vauxhall Viceroy, but the Commodore B was sold through select Opel dealers alongside Vauxhall's own FE Ventora.
