About the Morris Mini Mk I
The Morris Mini-Minor, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, was a response to the 1956 Suez Crisis and the resulting need for fuel-efficient transportation. Its revolutionary transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout allowed 80% of the floor space to be used for passengers and luggage, setting the template for the modern small car. The Mk I is distinguished by its external door hinges, sliding windows, and 'moustache' grille. While the 850cc engine offers modest performance, the car's 'go-kart' handling and clever packaging made it a classless cultural icon of the 1960s.
