About the Morris Ital
The Morris Ital was a major facelift of the Morris Marina, serving as a stop-gap model for British Leyland until the Austin Montego was ready. Despite the name suggesting Italian flair, the styling was actually handled in-house by Harris Mann, with Italdesign only managing the production engineering. It retained the Marina's dated rear-wheel-drive chassis and live-axle suspension, though it introduced the improved A-Plus engine from the Metro. As the last production car to carry the Morris name, it represents the end of an era for one of Britain's most famous marques.

Morris Ital fun facts
- Surviving Itals are rarer than the Marinas they replaced, partly because many were scrapped to donate their RWD A-Plus engines to Morris Minors.
- The car was named after Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign studio, but they only oversaw the engineering of the facelift rather than designing the car's look.
- The 1982 model year saw production move from Cowley to Longbridge to make room for the upcoming Austin Maestro.
