About the Renault 7
Produced exclusively by FASA-Renault in Spain, the Renault 7 (initially badged 'Siete') was a four-door saloon derivative of the iconic Renault 5. To accommodate the three-box design and improve rear legroom, the wheelbase was extended by 10 cm compared to the hatchback. It featured a unique 1037cc engine designed to stay under Spain's 8CV fiscal horsepower tax threshold, alongside more traditional chrome bumpers. Though popular in its home market, it was rarely exported, as Renault preferred to sell the larger R12 elsewhere. Today, it is a rare curiosity for Renault collectors, prized for its unique Spanish heritage and quirky proportions.

Renault 7 fun facts
- The car was initially named 'Siete' (Spanish for seven) in letters rather than digits to emphasise its Spanish identity.
- Despite being a small car, it offered a substantial 400-litre boot, significantly larger than the 270 litres found in the standard Renault 5.
- The Renault 7 retained the characteristic unequal wheelbase of the R5, where one side is slightly longer than the other due to the transverse torsion bar rear suspension.
