About the Vauxhall Chevette
Launched in 1975, the Vauxhall Chevette was the British variant of GM's T-Car global platform, most notable for its aerodynamic 'droopsnoot' front end designed by Wayne Cherry. It was the first British-built small hatchback, predating the Ford Fiesta, and its rear-wheel-drive layout provided surprisingly balanced handling. The 1.3 L was the mainstream trim, powered by a dependable overhead-valve engine derived from the Viva. While many succumbed to rust, surviving examples are now appreciated for their simple mechanicals and significant role in 1970s British motoring history.
