About the Austin-Healey Sprite Mk III
The Mark III Sprite represents the moment Austin-Healey's entry-level sports car traded some of its 'Frogeye' minimalism for genuine usability. While it retained the compact dimensions and eager handling of its predecessors, the addition of wind-up side windows, exterior door handles, and a curved windscreen made it a far more practical proposition for the Swinging Sixties. Mechanically, it benefited from a strengthened 1098cc A-Series engine with larger main bearings and a move to semi-elliptical rear springs, which significantly improved ride quality and axle control. It remains a quintessential British roadster, offering an intimate driving experience where 60 mph feels twice as fast.
