About the Peugeot 302
Introduced at the 1936 Paris Motor Show, the Peugeot 302 was a shortened, more accessible version of the flagship 402. It famously featured the 'Sochaux Spindle' design, characterized by a sloping waterfall grille with headlights integrated behind the mesh to improve aerodynamics. While its 1.8-litre engine provided modest performance, the 302 was technically advanced for its era, featuring independent front suspension that offered superior ride quality on rough interwar roads. Production was short-lived, ending in 1938 as Peugeot shifted focus to the smaller 202 and the '402 Légère' which combined the 302's chassis with a larger engine.

Peugeot 302 fun facts
- The 302's front grille features a hole for a starter handle that passes directly through the middle digit of the '302' badge.
- The aerodynamic design was so effective for its time that coachbuilder Emile Darl'mat used the 302 chassis as the basis for his successful Le Mans roadsters.
- Despite its streamlined looks, the 302 still used cable-operated drum brakes at a time when competitors like Citroën were moving to hydraulics.
