About the Mazda RX-7 FC
The second-generation RX-7, known as the FC, shifted the model toward a more refined grand touring character, drawing clear styling inspiration from the Porsche 944. The Turbo II variant, introduced for the 1987 model year in the US, featured the 13B-VDEI engine equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger to reduce lag and improve mid-range response. It introduced the Dynamic Tracking Suspension System (DTSS) and Auto Adjusting Suspension (AAS), which provided passive rear-wheel steering for improved high-speed stability. While heavier than its predecessor, the Turbo II offered a significant performance leap and remains a staple of the 1980s Japanese performance era.
