About the Mazda 323 FA
The FA-series 323, known as the GLC (Great Little Car) in North America, was Mazda's crucial response to the 1970s fuel crisis and the success of the Volkswagen Golf. Unlike the front-wheel-drive Golf, Mazda utilised a traditional rear-wheel-drive layout with a live rear axle, making it mechanically simple and robust. It was praised for its excellent build quality and clear, modern styling which helped transition Mazda away from its quirky rotary-focused image. Today, early 323s are rare survivors of the era, increasingly sought after by Japanese classic enthusiasts for their period charm and driving simplicity.
