About the Mazda 323 BD

The BD-generation Mazda 323, marketed as the Familia in Japan and the GLC (Great Little Car) in North America, represented a radical shift for Mazda as its first front-engine, front-wheel-drive subcompact. Launched in 1980, it featured a sophisticated independent rear suspension system that provided class-leading handling and ride quality. The 1.5-litre E5 engine offered a balance of efficiency and pep, helping the model win the inaugural Car of the Year Japan award. Today, it is a rare survivor of the early-80s Japanese hatchback boom, increasingly sought after by collectors for its clean design and historical significance.
