About the Simca 1100
Launched in 1967, the Simca 1100 was a visionary design that combined a transverse engine, front-wheel drive, and a practical hatchback body—a template later perfected by the Volkswagen Golf. The GLS trim offered a more refined interior and additional equipment, making it a popular choice in its native France where the 1100 often topped sales charts. Its advanced independent torsion-bar suspension provided a supple ride and sharp handling that surprised many contemporary rivals. While rust has claimed many examples, it remains a significant milestone in automotive history for its role in popularising the C-segment hatchback layout.
