About the Honda CR-V Mk1
The first-generation Honda CR-V was a pioneer in the 'soft-roader' segment, prioritising car-like handling and interior space over heavy-duty off-road capability. Built on a modified Civic platform, it featured a Real Time 4WD system that engaged the rear wheels only when slip was detected. The 1999 model year received a significant power boost from the B20Z engine, addressing criticisms of the earlier versions being underpowered. It remains a cult favourite for its reliability and quirky design touches, such as the integrated picnic table.
