About the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto
The Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, popularly known as the Duetto, is the purest expression of the long-running 105-series roadster. Launched at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, it was the final design personally overseen by Battista 'Pinin' Farina, featuring the distinctive 'osso di seppia' (cuttlebone) rounded tail. Its 1.6-litre twin-cam engine and five-speed gearbox provided a sophisticated driving experience that outclassed contemporary British rivals. The model gained global fame after appearing as Dustin Hoffman's car in the 1967 film The Graduate, cementing its status as a cultural icon.

- To promote the car's US launch, Alfa Romeo chartered the ocean liner Raffaello to carry 1,300 guests and several Spiders from Genoa to New York.
- The Series 1 Spider is often called the 'Round-tail' or 'Boat-tail' to distinguish it from the later 'Kamm-tail' models introduced in 1969.
