About the Ford Ranger
The 1998 model year marked the debut of the third-generation Ford Ranger, introducing a significantly updated chassis with a new wishbone front suspension replacing the long-running Twin I-Beam setup. The 4.0-litre 'Cologne' V6 remained the range-topping engine, providing robust torque for towing and off-road duties. While it retained the classic styling of its predecessor, the 1998 update brought a longer wheelbase and a stiffer frame, greatly improving ride quality and handling. It remains a staple of the compact truck market, prized by collectors for its simplicity and legendary reliability.
