About the Nissan Sunny B11
The B11 generation marked a historic shift for the Sunny, transitioning from rear-wheel drive to a space-efficient front-wheel-drive layout to better compete with the Toyota Corolla. In 1.6-litre form, it utilised the E-series OHC engine, providing a balance of reliability and improved fuel economy that became a hallmark of the brand. While primarily known for its utilitarian nature, the B11 was the first Sunny to be sold globally under the Nissan nameplate, phasing out the Datsun brand in many markets. Today, it is a rare survivor of the 1980s Japanese 'economic miracle' cars, valued by collectors for its simplicity and historical significance as a global best-seller.
