About the Ford Consul Mk1
Launched at the 1950 London Motor Show, the Ford Consul Mk1 (EOTA) was a revolutionary step forward for Ford of Britain. It was the first British Ford to feature modern unibody construction, MacPherson strut front suspension, and a hydraulic clutch, moving away from the archaic pre-war designs of its predecessors. Styled under George Walker of Ford USA, its 'bathtub' design offered a clean, transatlantic aesthetic that appealed to the post-war middle class. While its 1.5-litre engine provided modest performance, the Consul's robust engineering and comfortable ride made it a cornerstone of 1950s British motoring.
