About the Austin 6cwt
Introduced in 1968 to provide Austin dealers with a small commercial vehicle following the end of A35 production, the Austin 6cwt was a badge-engineered version of the Morris Minor van. It is distinguished from its Morris sibling by a unique fluted 'crinkly' grille insert and Austin badging, though it shared the same 1098cc A-Series engine and separate chassis construction. Unlike the Minor saloon's monocoque, the van utilized a separate chassis with telescopic rear dampers and stiffer leaf springs to handle its 6cwt (300kg) payload. Today, these Austin-badged variants are significantly rarer than the Morris versions, making them highly prized by British commercial vehicle collectors.
