About the Austin 1100 ADO16
The Austin 1100 was a cornerstone of the ADO16 family, Alec Issigonis's follow-up to the Mini that dominated British sales charts for nearly a decade. It combined the space-efficient transverse-engine layout of the Mini with a larger, more elegant Pininfarina-styled body and the innovative Hydrolastic fluid-interconnected suspension. This setup provided a remarkably smooth and level ride for a small car, though the transmission's characteristic whine remained a familiar trait. While prone to corrosion, surviving examples are celebrated for their clever packaging and surprisingly modern road manners.
