About the Dodge Charger
The first-generation Dodge Charger arrived mid-1966 as a premium fastback response to the AMC Marlin and Ford Mustang. Based on the B-body Coronet, it featured a distinctive 'electric shaver' full-width grille with hidden headlights and a luxurious interior with four individual bucket seats. The 318 cubic-inch V8 was the entry-level powerplant, offering smooth cruising rather than the raw aggression of the Hemi. While it lacked the 'Coke-bottle' curves of its famous 1968 successor, the original Charger is prized by collectors for its unique electroluminescent gauges and space-age fastback styling.

Dodge Charger fun facts
- The 1966 Charger's rear seats and center armrest could fold flat, creating a massive carpeted cargo area accessible through the trunk.
- It featured a unique electroluminescent dashboard where the gauges glowed blue-green at night, a high-tech feature for the mid-1960s.
- Despite its sleek look, the fastback shape created rear-end lift at high speeds, forcing NASCAR teams to add a small spoiler to keep the car stable.
