About the BMW 7 Series E23

The E23 was the first generation of the BMW 7 Series, designed by Paul Bracq to challenge the dominance of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The 735i, introduced in 1979, featured the legendary M30 'Big Six' engine, offering a more driver-focused alternative to its rivals. It was a technological pioneer, introducing features like a service interval indicator, check control panel, and anti-lock brakes to the BMW range. While the US market received a detuned 3.2-litre 733i in 1980, the European 735i remained the naturally aspirated flagship until the arrival of the turbocharged 745i.
