About the Volkswagen Golf Mk4
The fourth-generation Volkswagen Golf, designed under Hartmut Warkuss, marked a significant shift towards premium positioning for the brand. It introduced class-leading interior materials and tight panel gaps that rivalled luxury cars of the era, setting a new benchmark for the 'C-segment'. The 1.6-litre 16v engine in SE trim provided a balance of economy and adequate performance for the European market. While criticized for having softer suspension than its predecessors, its refinement and build quality made it a massive commercial success.
