About the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S Mk7
Released to celebrate the GTI's 40th anniversary, the Clubsport S is the most hardcore iteration of the Mk7 Golf. It famously broke the front-wheel-drive Nürburgring lap record with a time of 7:49.21, thanks to a 310 PS engine shared with the Golf R and a significant 30kg weight reduction over the standard Clubsport. To save weight, Volkswagen removed the rear seats, sound deadening, and the variable-ratio steering rack, while adding a bespoke 'Nürburgring' mode to the DCC suspension. Only 400 units were produced globally, all in a three-door, manual-only configuration, making it a highly sought-after modern classic.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S Mk7 fun facts
- The car features a specific 'Nürburgring' setting in the Individual driving profile, which optimizes the DCC dampers for the bumps and undulations of the Nordschleife.
- To achieve its record-breaking weight, the Clubsport S lacks rear seats, a parcel shelf, and even some sound insulation, resulting in a DIN kerb weight of just 1,285kg.
- Of the 400 units produced, 150 were allocated to the UK market, reflecting the country's high demand for performance hatchbacks.
