About the Triumph GT6 Mk3
The Triumph GT6 Mk3 was the final evolution of the Spitfire-based coupé, featuring a revised 'cut-off' Kamm tail design to match the contemporary Spitfire MkIV. It is powered by a smooth 2.0-litre straight-six engine, which provided a more refined and torquey experience than its four-cylinder rivals. The Mk3 benefited from the improved rear suspension geometry introduced late in the Mk2's life, significantly curing the swing-axle tuck-in issues of earlier models. As a compact grand tourer, it offered a distinctive alternative to the MGB GT, though its tight cabin and high interior heat remain well-known characteristics.

Triumph GT6 Mk3 fun facts
- The GT6's fastback shape was designed by Giovanni Michelotti, who was commissioned to create a GT version of the Spitfire for Triumph's Le Mans racing programme.
- Early GT6 models were notorious for tricky handling, but the Mk3 utilised a refined non-independent rear setup with Rotoflex couplings or improved swing axles to stabilise the car.
- Despite being marketed as a 2+2, the rear seat was an optional extra and is famously small, making it effectively a two-seater with a large luggage shelf.
