About the Triumph GT6 Mk1
Launched in 1966, the Triumph GT6 Mk1 was a fastback evolution of the Spitfire, designed by Giovanni Michelotti to capitalise on Triumph's success at Le Mans. While the Spitfire's four-cylinder engine struggled with the extra weight of the GT body, the installation of the 2.0-litre straight-six from the Vitesse transformed it into a refined grand tourer. The Mk1 is distinguished by its clean, original styling and a plush interior featuring a walnut veneer dashboard. However, it retained the Spitfire's swing-axle rear suspension, which could lead to unpredictable handling at the limit—a trait largely addressed in later marks but one that adds to the Mk1's raw, classic character.
