About the Triumph 2.5 PI Mk2
The Triumph 2.5 PI Mk2, launched in 1969, combined Giovanni Michelotti's elegant 'Innsbruck' styling with the punchy fuel-injected straight-six from the TR5 sports car. As Britain's first fuel-injected production saloon, it offered performance that could humble contemporary executive rivals like the Rover P6 and BMW 2002. The Mk2 update introduced a longer nose and tail, sharing a family resemblance with the Triumph Stag, alongside a more ergonomic interior. While the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system gained a reputation for being temperamental in period, well-sorted examples are now highly prized for their smooth power delivery and effortless motorway cruising capabilities.

Triumph 2.5 PI Mk2 fun facts
- The 2.5 PI was the first British saloon car to feature mechanical fuel injection as standard, a system developed by Lucas.
- The Mk2's front-end styling was designed to mirror the Triumph Stag, which was being developed by Michelotti at the same time.
- Due to reliability issues with the injection system in hot climates, Triumph replaced the PI with the carburetted 2500TC in many export markets.
