About the Toyota RAV4 XA10
The first-generation Toyota RAV4 (XA10) is widely credited with creating the modern compact crossover segment by combining a car-like unibody chassis with SUV styling and elevated ground clearance. Launched in 1994, it utilised components from the Corolla and Carina to deliver a driving experience far more agile than contemporary body-on-frame off-roaders. The 1998 facelift introduced revised 'crystal' headlamps, a new grille, and a slight power increase for the 3S-FE engine. While once common, early RAV4s are now gaining collector interest for their robust reliability, iconic '90s design, and historical significance as the progenitor of the world's best-selling SUV lineage.
