About the Toyota iQ
The Toyota iQ was a masterclass in packaging, designed to seat three adults and one child within a footprint less than three metres long. To achieve this, Toyota engineers developed six specific innovations, including a flat fuel tank under the floor, a miniaturised air conditioning unit, and an asymmetrical dashboard. Despite its tiny dimensions, it achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating thanks to nine airbags, including a world-first rear window curtain airbag. While it was more expensive than the larger Aygo when new, it is now prized by city dwellers for its exceptional 3.9-metre turning circle and premium build quality.

Toyota iQ fun facts
- The iQ's turning circle is just 3.9 metres, allowing it to perform a U-turn in many narrow city streets where other cars would require a three-point turn.
- To save space, the passenger side of the dashboard is pushed further forward than the driver's side, allowing the front passenger to sit further forward and create legroom for an adult behind them.
- The iQ served as the base for the ultra-exclusive Aston Martin Cygnet, which shared the Toyota's chassis and mechanicals but featured a bespoke luxury interior.
