About the Toyota Curren
The Toyota Curren was introduced in 1994 as a more traditional-looking alternative to the sixth-generation Celica, replacing the four round headlamps with a sleek, rectangular design. Built on the T200 chassis, it shared its interior and rear-end styling with the Celica but was exclusive to the Toyota Vista Store dealer network in Japan. The 2.0-litre trim typically featured the 3S-FE engine, prioritising smooth torque and efficiency over the high-revving nature of the ZS trim's 3S-GE. While it lacked the GT-Four's turbocharged all-wheel-drive heroics, the Curren offered a refined, lightweight driving experience with a focus on younger, style-conscious buyers. Today, it remains a rare sight outside of Japan, often sought by enthusiasts looking for a unique JDM alternative to the ubiquitous Celica.
