About the Talbot Tagora
The Talbot Tagora was the final, ill-fated attempt by Chrysler Europe to break into the executive market before the company was sold to PSA Peugeot Citroën. Developed under the C9 project code, it combined British design with French engineering but suffered from an identity crisis and internal competition with the Peugeot 604 and Citroën CX. The 2.2-litre version used the Simca-derived Type 180 engine, offering respectable comfort and a spacious cabin, though its boxy styling failed to win over buyers. Today, it is one of the rarest European saloons of its era, with survival rates in the UK reaching near-extinction levels.

Talbot Tagora fun facts
- The Tagora was originally designed with futuristic features like rear wheel spats and a glass front panel, but Chrysler executives in the US ordered a more conventional, boxy redesign.
- Despite its failure, the Tagora was praised for its ride quality and interior space, which was significantly larger than its main rival, the Ford Granada.
- By 2010, it was reported that over 99 percent of all Tagoras registered in the UK had been scrapped, making it a 'holy grail' for collectors of unloved classics.
