About the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus
Conceived by Chrysler UK's motorsport director Des O'Dell, the Sunbeam Lotus was a purpose-built homologation special designed to topple the Ford Escort in rallying. It paired a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive hatchback shell with a 2.2-litre Lotus twin-cam engine and a close-ratio ZF gearbox. The result was a raw, visceral machine that famously secured the 1981 World Rally Championship Manufacturers' title. Today, it is celebrated as one of the most charismatic and effective 'hot hatches' of the pre-Group B era.
