About the Suzuki Alto
The fifth-generation Suzuki Alto, particularly in its 1.1 GL facelifted form, served as a cornerstone of affordable motoring in the early 2000s. Produced by Maruti Suzuki in India for the European market, it featured a simple 16-valve four-cylinder engine that offered surprising pep for its featherweight 805 kg kerb weight. While the interior was basic and heavily reliant on hard plastics, its compact dimensions and tight turning circle made it an ideal urban runabout. Today, it is remembered as a durable, low-maintenance vehicle that provided honest transportation during the transition to more complex modern city cars.
