About the Mitsubishi i
The Mitsubishi i is a distinctive kei car that broke traditional design conventions with its rear-midship engine layout and long wheelbase. This configuration allowed for a spacious interior and a five-star JNCAP safety rating, rare for its class at the time. While most kei cars are front-engined, the 'i' uses its rear-drive setup to provide surprisingly agile handling and a tight turning circle. It served as the structural basis for the later all-electric i-MiEV, one of the world's first mass-produced electric cars.
