About the Skoda Octavia

Introduced in 1959, the original Škoda Octavia was a significant evolution of the 440 'Spartak', featuring a modernized front axle with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers. Its name, derived from the Latin for 'eighth', signifies its position as the eighth model produced by the nationalised company after World War II. The 1.1-litre variant served as the entry point, offering a robust and simple OHV engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. While the saloon was replaced by the rear-engined 1000 MB in 1964, the Octavia nameplate remains one of the most enduring in European motoring history.
