About the Skoda Garde
The Škoda Garde (Type 743) was the successor to the iconic 110R, introducing a sharper, more angular aesthetic to the rear-engined coupé lineage. While it shared its 1.2-litre powertrain with the 120 LS saloon, the Garde featured a significant engineering upgrade in the form of semi-trailing arm rear suspension, greatly improving the handling over its swing-axle predecessors. It holds historical significance as the first mass-produced car in Slovakia following the transfer of production to the BAZ plant in Bratislava in 1982. Often referred to as the 'poor man's Porsche' in Western markets like the UK, where it was sold as the Rapid, it remains a cult classic for its unique layout and mechanical simplicity.
