About the Skoda 1200
The Škoda 1200, often referred to as the 'Sedan', marked a significant technological shift for the Mladá Boleslav manufacturer as its first model to feature an all-steel ponton-style body. Replacing the wood-framed 1101/1102 series, it utilised a central tubular backbone chassis, a hallmark of Škoda engineering at the time. While its 1.2-litre engine provided modest performance, the car was praised for its durability and aerodynamic efficiency, which was refined in a wind tunnel. Most examples served in official capacities or as taxis in the Eastern Bloc, though it was also exported to Western markets to earn foreign currency.
