About the Skoda 130 Type 742

The Skoda 130 represented the final evolution of the rear-engined Type 742 series, introducing a larger 1.3-litre engine and a more sophisticated semi-trailing arm rear suspension to address the handling quirks of its predecessors. Known in the UK as the Estelle Two, it offered a unique rear-heavy driving experience that earned it comparisons to the Porsche 911, albeit at a fraction of the cost. Despite its budget positioning, the 130 was a formidable competitor in motorsport, famously securing 17 consecutive class wins on the RAC Rally. Today, it is a cult classic, valued for its mechanical simplicity and significant role in Eastern Bloc automotive history.
