About the Saab 90
The Saab 90 was a clever 'parts-bin' creation designed to bridge the gap between the ageing 99 and the larger 900. It combined the front section of the Saab 99 with the rear of the 900 sedan, resulting in a larger boot and a more modern fuel system compared to its predecessor. Produced exclusively at the Valmet plant in Finland, it was powered by the reliable 8-valve 'H' engine and offered a simplified, robust alternative to the more complex turbocharged models. Today, it is a rare sight outside of Scandinavia, valued by collectors for its unique history and the classic 'upright' Saab driving experience.

Saab 90 fun facts
- The Saab 90 was never sold in the United States because its carburetted engine could not meet strict American emissions standards.
- A special edition called the 'Lumikko' was produced for the Finnish market; only 10 were made, featuring an all-white exterior and the 900 Aero's body kit.
- The model was discontinued in 1987 because Saab decided it wasn't worth the investment to adapt the engine for the newly required catalytic converters.
