About the Renault 17
The Renault 17 was launched alongside the 15 as a more sporting, upscale sibling, featuring quad round headlights and unique 'slatted' rear quarter panels. The TS trim was the performance flagship, utilising a 1.6-litre engine derived from the Renault 16 TS but upgraded with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection. It was one of the few front-wheel-drive coupés of its era to offer a five-speed gearbox as standard. While it shared its chassis with the Renault 12, the 17 TS offered a more sophisticated driving experience and remains a rare sight on modern roads due to low survival rates.
