About the Riley Kestrel ADO16
The Riley Kestrel 1300 represents the final chapter of the Riley marque, offering a premium alternative to the ubiquitous Austin and Morris 1100/1300 models. Based on the Alec Issigonis-designed ADO16 platform, it features the innovative Hydrolastic interconnected suspension system and a transverse engine layout. The 1300 trim, introduced in 1967, provided a significant performance boost over the original 1100, especially in the twin-carburettor form launched in 1968. Inside, it was distinguished by a full-width walnut veneer dashboard, circular instruments including a rev counter, and higher-quality upholstery. Production ended in 1969 when British Leyland retired the Riley name to rationalise its brand portfolio.
