About the Riley Elf
Launched in 1961, the Riley Elf was a premium, three-box derivative of the original BMC Mini, designed to offer traditional British luxury in a compact package. It is distinguished by its upright chrome grille, extended rear wings, and a proper 'bustle' boot that increased luggage capacity. Inside, the Elf featured a full-width walnut veneer dashboard and leather seat facings, distancing it from the utilitarian Austin and Morris siblings. The Mk I is powered by the 848cc A-series engine, providing modest performance but retaining the Mini's legendary nimble handling.

Riley Elf fun facts
- The Riley Elf and its twin, the Wolseley Hornet, were the only Mini variants to feature a traditional three-box saloon silhouette with a separate boot.
- Early Mk I models are easily identified by their lack of external body seams on the A-pillars, a feature that was changed in 1962 to simplify production.
- Despite its luxury pretensions, the Mk I Elf initially used the same sliding windows and external door hinges as the basic Mini.
