About the Renault Espace Mk3
The third-generation Renault Espace, developed in collaboration with Matra, refined the multi-purpose vehicle formula with a focus on interior modularity and futuristic design. It retained the signature composite plastic body panels mounted on a galvanised steel chassis, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance. The interior was notable for its centrally mounted digital instrument cluster and vast storage solutions, including a dashboard that doubled as a shelf. While the 2.0-litre engine provided modest performance, the Mk3 is remembered for its exceptional ride comfort and airy, lounge-like cabin.

Renault Espace Mk3 fun facts
- The Mk3 Espace was the last generation to be manufactured by Matra in Romorantin-Lanthenay before Renault moved production in-house.
- Its dashboard design was so radical for the time that it lacked a traditional instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel, using a central LCD instead.
- The body panels are made of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), making the car significantly lighter than an equivalent all-steel vehicle.
