About the Mazda 5 CR
The first-generation Mazda 5 (CR) was a compact MPV that prioritised driving dynamics, sharing its platform with the agile Mazda3 and Ford Focus. It stood out in its segment for featuring twin sliding rear doors, a rarity for a vehicle of its size, and a flexible 'Karakuri' seating system that could accommodate up to seven passengers. The 1.8-litre TS served as the entry-level petrol variant in the UK, offering a balance of economy and utility, though it lacked the punch of the larger 2.0-litre engines. While the interior plastics were functional rather than premium, its car-like handling made it a favourite for families who didn't want to sacrifice driver engagement.
