About the Proton Saga

The Proton Saga was Malaysia's first national car, developed through a joint venture with Mitsubishi and based on the Lancer Fiore. The 1.5 GL trim featured the 'Megavalve' 12-valve engine, which provided a significant performance boost over earlier 8-valve units. In the UK, it gained a reputation for exceptional reliability and value, often purchased by older drivers who maintained them meticulously. While once considered a disposable budget car, it has recently gained a cult following in the 'unexceptional' classic car scene, culminating in a Saga winning the 2021 Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional.
