About the Lada 1600
The Lada 1600, known internally as the VAZ-2106, was the most prestigious and powerful evolution of the Fiat 124-based 'Zhiguli' series. Launched in 1976, it featured a larger 1.6-litre engine, improved soundproofing, and a more luxurious interior with headrests and a tachometer, making it a status symbol in the Eastern Bloc. While its mechanical DNA remained rooted in the 1960s, its rugged construction and simple maintenance allowed it to remain in production for three decades. Today, it is highly regarded by collectors as the most refined and 'complete' version of the classic rear-wheel-drive Lada saloons.
