About the Porsche 911 R 991
Released as a limited-run 'purist' special, the 911 R was Porsche's response to enthusiasts demanding a manual transmission for the 991-generation's most potent naturally aspirated engine. It utilizes the 4.0-litre flat-six from the GT3 RS but discards the aggressive aerodynamics and PDK gearbox in favour of a bespoke six-speed manual and a clean, wingless body. Weight-saving measures include a magnesium roof, carbon-fibre bonnet and wings, and the deletion of rear seats and soundproofing. It remains one of the most significant modern Porsches, bridging the gap between track-focused performance and analogue road-driving engagement.
