About the Pontiac LeMans
The 1973 LeMans marked a radical departure for Pontiac's intermediate line, introducing the 'Colonnade' body style designed to meet new federal rollover and impact standards. While the 350 cubic-inch V8 saw a reduction in net power compared to the muscle car peak, it remained a smooth and reliable cruiser with ample low-end torque. This generation featured a significantly improved front suspension shared with the Firebird, offering better handling than its predecessors despite the increased weight of the new safety bumpers. Today, it is appreciated as a more accessible alternative to the GTO, representing the transition from raw performance to the luxury-oriented 'personal car' era.
