About the Pontiac LeMans
The 1978 Pontiac LeMans marked a significant shift for the nameplate, debuting a downsized A-body platform that was nearly 800 pounds lighter and a foot shorter than its predecessor. While it moved away from the high-displacement swagger of the 1960s, the fifth-generation model offered much-improved packaging and fuel efficiency during the late-70s energy crisis. The 3.8-litre Buick-sourced V6 became the standard power unit, providing adequate but modest performance for a car now focused on daily usability. Collectors appreciate these models for their crisp Bill Mitchell-era styling and as accessible entry points into classic American car ownership.
